For a generation of Gen X and Millennial youths, Skeet Ulrich was hot dirtbag Billy from Scream or hot dirtbag Chris from The Craft. But to the youths of Gen Z, Skeet is Jughead Jones’ hot dirtbag dad on Riverdale. At least, he was for the first four seasons of Riverdale. In February, Skeet announced he was done playing Daddy Jones, which was bad news for the creators of Riverdale, who were now tasked with pulling off television’s least-successful casting challenge, the Darrin Stephens switcheroo.Skeet’s reason for leaving was very mysterious and mildly dramatic. But Skeet has recently explained why he wasn’t returning to Riverdale, and basically, he didn’t want to be bored out of his greasy skull any longer. When Skeet announced back in February that he was leaving the show after four seasons,he explained that he was grateful to the show and it was simply time for him to move on to, “explore other creative opportunities.” You had to wonder if it wasn’t some creative publicist talk for, “Shoot, Skeet got fired again.” But Skeet legitimately chose to leave on his own terms. Those terms were that he was bored. Yesterday, 50-year-old Skeet did an Instagram Live with his 25-year-old model girlfriend, Megan Blake Irwin, and when a fan asked him why he left Riverdale, he said,“I’m leaving Riverdale because I got bored creatively. How’s that? That’s the most honest answer.”okay, my heart just broke and i’m gonna go cry now pic.twitter.com/njlAKOtRHI— lexie May 17, 2020 Skeet isn’t the only cast member who decided to get out of town, so to speak. Marisol Nichols, who plays Veronica Lodge’s mom Hermione Lodge, also announced in February that she’s leaving. When Luke Perry died suddenly in March 2019, Riverdale wrote his character, Archie Andrews’ dad Fred Andrews, out of the show by having him die in a hit-and-run. So Riverdale has lost Archie’s dad, Jughead’s dad, and Veronica’s mom. Although it’s likely Skeet and Marisol will simply be recast and not written out.Skeet’s character also had a major arc within the show, as he was banging Betty Cooper’s mom Alice Cooper, played byMdchen Amick. It was also revealed that he had previously fathered a son with Alice, who gave her son up for adoption.I’m not a Riverdale fan in the least, but I must debate Skeet on his claim that he got bored. Riverdale is arguably one of the weirdest, messiest things you can watch right now. And that’s saying something, considering we’re living in a time in which one of the most popular shows on television is about to end with a three-way in-home WiFi lip sync battle. Plus, boring is good. Imagine getting paid thousands of dollars for Skeet’s job? Literally all he had to do was show up to work and try not to say, “whaaaaat the fuck,” while watching adults-trying-to-be-teens struggle dance to karaoke songs.Pic: The CWDlisted
